New York’s genre‑bending provocateurs, Makes My Blood Dance (MMBD) continue reshaping the borders of electro‑goth, pop‑metal and electronic nightlife with their newest single “Lately (feat. Macy Gray)” — a collaboration that no one saw coming, yet lands with absolute inevitability once it hits the speakers.
Signed to Metropolis Records in late 2025, MMBD have already carved out a reputation for high‑voltage performances and cinematic singles. Their latest release marks their third outing for the label and their boldest stylistic leap to date: a reimagining of Macy Gray’s own 2010 track “Lately”, transformed from sleek disco into a colder, industrial‑funk pulse.
Gray’s unmistakable, smoky rasp cuts through MMBD’s sharpened production like a flare in a dark room. “It’s two worlds that shouldn’t meet, colliding in the same room,” the band states — and that tension is exactly what gives the track its charge.
Rather than softening MMBD’s edges, Gray’s presence intensifies them. Her voice becomes a counterweight to the band’s metallic groove, adding gravity and contrast as they rebuild the song around a framework of pressure, release and nocturnal energy. It’s a genuine crossover moment: a Grammy‑winning, multi‑platinum voice stepping into a space engineered for sweat, strobe and shadow.
“Lately” arrives as MMBD continue their US tour with Powerman 5000 and 12 Stones, running through the end of May. The momentum leads directly into the release of their long‑awaited debut album Z3r0 2 LGHT $p33d!, out 5 June on CD and digital formats, with vinyl following in August.
With this single, MMBD prove once again that their universe thrives on friction — and that the most unexpected collisions often burn the brightest. The previously released single, “Black Summer”, is still available to check out over HERE. Link
