German synth pop artist Meersein has released his debut EP Ocean — a work that dives far deeper than its title suggests. Written, performed, and produced entirely by the artist himself, the EP presents a fully realised sonic world where 1980s nostalgia, modern production aesthetics, and Meersein’s unmistakably personal songwriting merge into a cohesive, emotionally charged whole.
Across its five tracks, Ocean explores the shifting states of water as metaphors for human vulnerability, longing, and consequence. “Tide Myself” and “Moon Drunk” form the EP’s most immediate entry points: shimmering synth lines, driving rhythms, and a dance‑floor pulse that carries a distinctly melancholic undertow. These tracks showcase Meersein’s ability to craft hooks without sacrificing atmosphere — a balance that defines his emerging sound.
The tone darkens with “Faultless Deep”, a piece that confronts humanity’s destructive relationship with nature. Here, Meersein channels a more dramatic narrative voice, warning of a sea pushed beyond its limits — a place where “no deed goes unpunished” and where the ocean itself becomes a witness, judge, and avenger.
“Ariel”, recently accompanied by an official music video, shifts into poetic territory. It tells a fragile love story between human and ocean, portraying both as forces capable of shaping, healing, and overwhelming one another. The EP concludes with “Atlantis”, a track that leaves listeners suspended between myth and reality: is the legendary city merely sleeping, or has it already begun to rise again beneath our feet?
Beyond its sonic palette, Ocean stands out for its lyrical ambition. Meersein pushes his writing further than ever before, crafting texts that invite introspection and emotional immersion. This is an EP for listeners who seek more than surface‑level synth pop — it rewards those who engage with its layers of meaning, mood, and metaphor.
“I don’t like composing by formula,” Meersein states. “The music has to come from within me — free from genre constraints and the expectations of the music industry.” Ocean embodies that philosophy completely: a bold, self‑contained artistic statement and the beginning of a new chapter for the German musician.
