Legendary Norwegian visionary Mortiis and USA‑based melodic black metallers Uada have joined forces for a very special co‑headliner North American tour, bringing together exclusive anniversary sets and rare performances. With support from Jerome Reuter’s Rome and Wraith Knight, the tour promises to be a dark celebration of milestones and musical legacies.
Mortiis will revisit his groundbreaking 2001 full‑length The Smell Of Rain, alongside other volumes of dystopian despair, clawing through a quarter‑century of recordings to unearth echoes of the past and visions of the future. Uada, meanwhile, will perform their seminal debut Devoid Of Light (2016) in its entirety, before closing with a 30th anniversary set of their previous works from Ceremonial Castings, featuring Wraith Knight.
Reflecting on the upcoming shows, Mortiis notes: “While creating and uncreating, sometimes composing, and occasionally violently invoking the music and sounds that are set to be my new album, it is growing increasingly apparent to me that I am occasionally calling upon some old ghosts of the past. I can hear – sometimes clearly, at other times faintly – musical echoes from The Smell Of Rain days, not to mention new sounds of the blurry, faint, but unmistakably strange, future, that is yet to unfold. It seems natural to me to now unearth several of the songs from The Smell Of Rain and other music of similar dispirit, as a first step into the bleak dystopian dreamscapes that Mortiis appears to be heading into from here on out.”
Never predictable and always resistant to being pigeon‑holed, Mortiis continues to expand his sonic universe. His forthcoming full‑length features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Thorsten Quaeschning (Tangerine Dream), Christopher Amott (Black Earth, formerly Arch Enemy), Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh, Brian Jonestown Massacre), Matthew Setzer (Skinny Puppy), and Laurie Von Haus (soundtrack vocalist for World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, Diablo III).
