Indianapolis melodic doom‑death outfit Mother Of Graves have announced their new full‑length, The Light That Keeps Us, set for release on 16 October via Profound Lore Records. The first single, “Through The Pale Shade”, is now available for listening below.
Vocalist Brandon Howe describes the track as a tale of resilience in a collapsing world — a search for beauty amid despair. “Instrumentally, the song bleeds hope and sorrow in equal measure,” he explains. “We chose it as the first single because it captures the true nature of our sound — heavy, dreamlike, and honest.”
Following two years of focused writing and the impact of their acclaimed The Periapt Of Absence, Mother Of Graves return with their most fully realised work yet. The album showcases the sharpened songwriting of Chris Morrison and Ben Sandman, the steadfast rhythm section of Corey Clark and Don Curtis, and Howe’s expressive vocal and keyboard presence.
The Light That Keeps Us merges death‑metal force with the melancholic, romantic edge of melodic doom — crushing, human, and deeply introspective. Each track guides the listener through themes of mortality, sorrow, love, and endurance. Produced by guitarist Ben Sandman, the record strips away excess to amplify what matters most: emotion, atmosphere, and authenticity.
Visual artist Larisa Brechun provides the evocative cover painting, perfectly mirroring the album’s weight and depth. Longtime collaborator Dan Swanö returns for mastering and also contributes guest vocals on “Wingless Soul” — a full‑circle moment that adds further significance to the release.
With The Light That Keeps Us, Mother Of Graves deliver eight tracks of despairing beauty and fierce purpose, marking another milestone in their ascent through the doom‑death realm. Link
