Berlin-based darkwave outfit Night Nail has released "Passion Squad", the second single taken from its forthcoming fourth studio album, Infinite Fountain, set for release on 6 November via Icy Cold Records.
Blending personal experience with dystopian storytelling, "Passion Squad" explores a reality where technological progress and human vulnerability collide. Inspired by frontman Brandon Robert's final days working in the e-commerce sector, the track transforms a deeply personal experience into a compelling narrative about obsolescence in the age of artificial intelligence.
Rather than telling the story from a human perspective, Robert adopts the voice of the AI system itself, creating a disturbing yet strangely empathetic dialogue between creator and replacement. Opening with the haunting line, "Your story's really sad," the song delves into themes of identity, displacement, and the psychological toll of an increasingly automated world.
Driven by Night Nail's signature darkwave aesthetics, "Passion Squad" combines melancholic atmosphere with sharp contemporary relevance, offering a thought-provoking reflection on modern labour, technological evolution, and the uncertain future that lies between them.
Sven Wolff mixed and produced the single at Cosmonaut Studio in Berlin, and Night Nail co-produced it. Additional contributions include saxophone by Ruby Mai, bass guitar by Kill Shelter, and backing vocals by VV & The Void.
"Passion Squad" serves as another captivating preview of Infinite Fountain, further expanding anticipation for what promises to be one of Night Nail's most ambitious and emotionally resonant releases to date.
