Masters of musical melancholia, Sleeping Pulse, have unveiled the video single "Rise", the first advance track from their forthcoming album Dreams & Limitations. The Anglo‑Portuguese duo will release their long‑awaited sophomore full‑length on 5 June via Prophecy Productions.

Sleeping Pulse's frontman, Mick Moss, comments: "The track 'Rise' confronts the unnerving reality that there is no life without death. Both are wound together so tightly that they tease each other. We can try our best to focus on the light, but the darkness is always there, tapping us on the shoulder".

When the Northern English melancholia of green and grey valleys meets the eternal longing of Portuguese fado—where the raging Atlantic crashes into the heat of summer at the edge of the world—you get Sleeping Pulse.

Portugal is known for its casual, almost intimate relationship with the subject of death, spoken of as naturally as the weather. England, by contrast, is often seen as stoic. It is little wonder, then, that Sleeping Pulse explore the profound struggle of staying sane while navigating the heartbreaking truth that existence is not only brief, but fraught with personal loss and the impossibility of holding on to those we love.

What sets the duo apart—Mick Moss, best known for his work with Antimatter, and Portuguese guitarist Luís Fazendeiro—is their ability to render this existential ache audible in every note of Dreams & Limitations. Drawing on a foundation of doomy progressive rock and post‑rock textures, Sleeping Pulse craft music that is deeply emotional yet continually engaging. Their songs do not wallow in sorrow; instead, they embrace the inevitable and live through it for as long as it lasts.

It has taken Sleeping Pulse more than a decade to create a worthy successor to Under The Same Sky (2014). Their debut arrived quietly, and although warmly received, the absence of live performances could easily have consigned it to obscurity. Instead, it endured. Streams continued to grow, a vinyl reissue was eagerly embraced, and word of mouth—friends sharing the album, fans of timeless, beautiful music discovering it—kept Under The Same Sky alive.

Naturally, both new listeners and long‑time followers continued to ask politely for new material. For years, these requests were met mostly with silence, as both musicians were occupied with other projects. Yet time brought new personal experiences, adding layers to the emotions that had birthed Sleeping Pulse in the first place. Eventually, the internal call to return to the project grew too loud to ignore. Moss and Fazendeiro felt compelled to join forces once again and begin writing new songs.

With Dreams & Limitations, Sleeping Pulse pick up where they left off while gently venturing further along their rocky path. The album invites those for whom rock music is not all about party and kicking ass. It gives voice to loss and pain, yet also offers to shoulder part of the burden—providing comfort, hope, and companionship through dark times. Link
