Italian post-punk band The Black Veils released a brand new single and lyric video, "Nyctalopia". It's taken from the upcoming album, Gaslight, set to be released on 15 November via Icy Cold Records.
Following the singles "Gaslight!" and "Have You Seen Bunny Lake?", "Nyctalopia" is a very dark electro-post-punk anthem, political in its own way, which takes its name from a condition — also called "night blindness" — that makes it difficult or impossible to see in relatively low light.
In Italy, "nyctalopia" is often used to indicate its opposite, i.e. 'day blindness,' creating a fortunate confusion. "Nyctalopia" was written two years ago, but someone else could have written it more than 75 years ago. It is a desperate, angry and discouraged humanitarian cry that tries not to be rhetorical, but rather evocative. It is we who cannot "see" in these dark times, surrounded by the horror and violence of a capitalist plan in which even the right to live is renegotiated.
The song draws inspiration from the imagery of two works by Thomas Ligotti, 'Songs of a Dead Dreamer' and 'The Conspiracy Against the Human Race'.
