An Italian duo, The Future Sound Of Koyaanis Naqoy, based in Cilento (southern Italy) and born from the meeting of Andrea Doro, aka Koyaanis Naqoy, and drummer Antonio Vessa, have self-released their debut album, Ancient Impulses Of A Paranoid Idol.
The record unfolds as a single, fully instrumental sonic narrative, articulated across five chapters linked by a shared trajectory: the story of a man who arrives in a large city, is traumatised by it, retreats to its margins for an entire lifetime, and finally attempts a late leap towards the unknown - one that coincides with the definitive destruction of space and horizons.
Ancient Impulses Of A Paranoid Idol was recorded entirely live on 13 November 2024 in Italy, at Goldmine Records, run by Maurizio Sarnicola, preserving the urgency and unpredictability of live performance. What emerges is a compact, dark and uncompromising flow, in which sound and narrative advance through accumulation, stasis and sudden ruptures.
The Future Sound of Koyaanis Naqoy emerges from the extension and distortion of Koyaanis Naqoy's dense, dark ambient, drone and noise atmospheres, reinforced by Antonio Vessa's incisive, multifaceted jazz-informed drumming. Electronic rarefaction is countered by a shifting, fragmented rhythmic component, opening up new stylistic and perceptual intersections and turning the narrative into physical matter and continuous tension.
