Following the release of their self‑titled debut album this April, the anonymous multi‑national ensemble Thy Sanatorium return with a reimagined rendition of A‑Ha's iconic 1985 track "Take On Me".
Known for crafting music steeped in psychological horror and extreme metal, the group take one of pop's most recognisable songs and filter it through their own unsettling aesthetic. The result preserves the familiar melodic core while pushing it into far darker, more disquieting territory.
The band comment: "Our debut album is heavy on psychological horror, so when it came time to record a cover we thought, 'Let's mess with people's memories and twist something everyone is familiar with'. So here we are. Regardless of whether you hate it or love it, we now live in a reality where this cover exists. That's terrifying".
While few listeners would expect any connection between Thy Sanatorium and A‑Ha, the group embraced the contrast, using it as an opportunity to subvert expectations. The cover arrives shortly after their debut full‑length received strong international reactions from media outlets, showcasing yet another facet of their creative approach.
Whether perceived as a tribute, an experiment, or something in between, Thy Sanatorium's take on "Take On Me" pulls a familiar piece of pop culture into a far more shadowed and unsettling realm. Link
