Finnish modern melodic metal outfit Unén, who made a striking first impression with last year’s debut album Forever Winter, now open an entirely new chapter with their powerful new single “Dancing In Flames”. The track serves as the first glimpse into the band’s evolving sound — sharper, heavier, and more confident than ever.
Fronted by Stina Girs, known to many from her top‑five breakthrough in Idols before revealing her true metal voice upon joining Unén three years ago, the band wanted their next era to begin with a statement piece. And “Dancing In Flames” delivers exactly that.
“Dancing In Flames radiates confidence. When you believe someone loves you and it turns out to be a lie, the ground disappears beneath you. But when life hits hard, every scar makes you stronger — you rise ready for the next battle. Then all you can do is dance in the flames,” says Girs, who penned the song’s lyrics.
Written collectively by the entire band, the single marks a clear evolution from Forever Winter. “We wanted to turn things up a notch, and ‘Dancing In Flames’ is the perfect example of that. It shows many sides of us — rock‑driven intensity, rhythmic atmosphere, a catchy chorus, and, as the cherry on top, a truly heavy mid‑section complete with growls,” the band explains.
Although the name Unén originally grew from the idea of crafting lyrics around dreamscapes, the concept has since shifted — but the name remained. In contrast, the music video for “Dancing In Flames”, directed by Elsa Wellamo, is firmly grounded in the present moment.
“With a high‑energy song like this, the traditional performance‑video format really does it justice. As a counterbalance, dancer Laura Zaray brought a beautiful additional visual layer to the video,” the band adds. Link
