Trans-Atlantic ethereal/darkwave duo, Vox Umbra, have just released their debut single and video for the song, “Cold Heart”. The song explores themes of emotional distance, disconnection, and the difficulty of breaking through barriers between people. The lyrics use imagery of coldness and silence to express frustration, detachment, and the struggle to communicate in the face of indifference or misunderstanding.
The song was inspired by the broader idea of isolation — both emotional and physical. As a duo working entirely online between Seattle and France, distance and separation are built into our process, and that experience influenced the tone and perspective of the song. “Cold Heart” reflects the feeling of trying to reach across that space, whether personal or digital.
The track blends darkwave and electronic elements, with layered synths, driving drums, and dual vocals. It was composed in Seattle (by Tiffany) and produced collaboratively between the USA and France, with all elements recorded separately and mixed online. The remote process itself helped shape the song’s mood and texture.
The video was filmed on location in Seattle (Lincoln Park, West Seattle) and Amiens, France, and edited in Amiens. It mirrors the song’s atmosphere — stark imagery, minimal light, and a sense of distance between figures and environments. It’s less about a specific narrative and more about conveying isolation and contrast: presence versus absence, warmth versus cold. The visual style reflects Vox Umbra’s identity as a duo creating together across continents. Link
