Kodge is an alternative rock band from the southeast of Brazil, formed in 2018 by Lucas Marques (guitar and vocals), Carlos Lemes (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Gabriel Ottoboni (drums and backing vocals) in the city of Itajubá, Minas Gerais State. Surrounded by the Mantiqueira Mountains, the biggest mountain range in Brazil, Kodge developed its own sound. Although the music is influenced by the alternative rock bands from the late '80s and early '90s, such as The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and others, they nicknamed (among themselves) the sound as "mountain rock", due to its delays and reverbs, used on the vocals and guitars, because of the environment mentioned before. That way band creates this energetic, broad and melancholic sound spectrum. The lyrics are abstract and surrealistic, contemplating the unknown, the mystery of consciousness, existence and nonexistence, being spiritual and nihilistic at once. That is Kodge's music.
Kodge released its first EP on September 4th 2020. This self-titled EP features five tracks recorded and produced by the band itself, honouring the DIY value, sticking to their innermost gut instincts, making it a raw and legit documentation of the universe created and expressed within their music.
Kodge has also released its first music video for the song "Cynic" on October 2nd. It has got great feedback, both because of the song which has an interesting mix of rhythms and simple but appealing melody and the video that contains footage of the local nature and also the band playing in-studio live. That brings the viewer an interesting underground vibe. This music video was also produced and edited by the band itself. Check the video out in the player below.
[Dark] UNKNOWN is presenting Kodge's music this Thursday, December 3rd at 22.00 (CET) on Terra Relicta Radio. Stay tuned.
