Poland based duo Stridulum has recently released its first full-length, Soothing Tales Of Escapism, via Manic Depression Records. Also, a new video for the "Home" track has been launched and is available in the player below.
Stridulum was formed by Marita Volodina (voice/words) and Arkadiy Berg (all instruments) in 2019. The duo plays dark and cold electronic wave music - melancholic and minimalistic but never monotonous. In contrast to the musical coldness stand the highly emotive and expressive vocals of Volodina, revolving around themes of despair, desire, loss and transformation. In reversing the opposites of minimal music and emotionally multi-layered vocals, lies the project's peculiarity. Stridulum creates songs that are sad but powerful, pensive but angry, fragile but full of strength, danceable but moody, accessible but deep.
The first taste of Stridulum's music is an EP Burial, released in April 2020 via Bat-Cave Productions. Exploring beauty in pain and pain in beauty, bringing together the Alpha and Omega - this alleged dichotomy reflects the musical and lyrical work of Stridulum: the delicate complexity of the emotional realm from which Burial springs.
Soothing Tales Of Escapism, the first full-length, is the next step towards discovering new areas of darkwave and dark electronics. Ten Soothing Tales Of Escapism's songs of "penance & salvation", as states Stridulum, are available digitally on Bandcamp and as a CD. Link
