UNDERSTATED THEORY - Second Full-Length Out Now, Opening Track Available For Streaming

UK based ambient/post-rock/drone project Understated Theory just released the second full-length album, Tales From The Shadowlands, through Norwegian label Sparkwood Records. Understated Theory is an ambient project of Colin Crighton (Sorrow Floats, nil.co) and Tom Moore (Dead Melodies, Cinereous Mire, Indigolab). Their sound is a sprawling fuse of manipulated guitars, rustic keys and organic field recordings all carefully crafted into their own brand of textured sound.
Both hailing from the differing ends of the UK, the pair has made music in a variety of styles under various monikers since the early 90s. They first worked together in 2011 through a series of online collaborations, which ultimately culminated in the 2014 self-released album, Something In The Sky; a fuse of shoegaze, folk, dub and blues (released then as Indigolab and Colin Crighton).
By 2015 a more refined sound was beginning to develop and with the new sound came the new name, Understated Theory. This year saw two releases through Norwegian net label, Sparkwood Records; first up, as a farewell to their old sound was the EP, Critical Drift. This was followed soon after by the well-received CD release of Juxtapparition; now exploring darker territories; mixing ambient post-rock with deep droning atmospherics and downtempo electronica.
2018 sees the completion of a three year long venture, further developing their sound and crafting the imaginary post-apocalyptic road movie soundtrack, Tales From The Shadowlands. A droning ambient post-rock affair, capturing the essence of the duo's fervour for rustic blues, Americana and ambient storytelling. In the player below you can give a listen to the album opener "No Man's Land", and if you want more than the entire thing is available at this location. Link
