Another one-man band playing atmospheric post-rock, metalgaze, etc. Worries aside. 5773 is his third release after self-titled full lenght and last years Insight [EP]. I must admit that improvement progresses from release to release. Miasme comes from Poland and it's actually quite a nice surprise. This ep contains four songs, o.k. three plus one short ambiental instrumental, all in the vein of latest Alcest, Agalloch, Les Discrets and similar artists. The one can sense even some Isis or Tool in here. On the web you can read that his influences varies from black metal (3rd wave), post-rock, ambient, sludge, drone, shoegaze and some 90's post-hardcore. Everything mentioned is packed well together, although some of those styles are difficult to be found or heard on this release (e.g. black metal, sludge or post hard core). So far, so good.
All tracks are mostly very melodic, with pretty haunting atmospheric passages, excellent guitar work and nice drumming. Mainly instrumental songs are here and there interupted with some spoken vocals and annoying, badly recorded clear singing. Yes, this guy should stop singing, because,... let's take for example the third song »Adjacent«, which starts with a really nice acoustic guitar part and when the vocals take part it ruins everything. The latter development of this piece is magnificent, slowly growing, with some Anathema or even Katatonia kind of emotional feeling and I must admit that it beats a lot of big names inside this genre. On the other hand I have nothing against those spoken vocals as they add a lot to the overall ambiance of Miasme music. The last song »Bdikat Chomec« is almost 11 minutes long piece with obvious avantgarde metal feeling and some nice experimentations with weird noises, samples, electronic parts, some piano passages and acoustic guitars. On this one you can hear some really good and aggressive metal riffing. We can notice a strong will to be original and to bring something fresh into this today trendy genre.
There is no question about musical skills of this guy, all instruments are played very well and song structures aren't boring, only the productional part could be better as it is somehow dry. I'm looking forward for Miasme future releases and I can only hope that he will leave behind that clear singing vocals or maybe it'll be even better to find somebody else to do the job instead.
