M Λ L V S is the eighth studio album of this Berlin based band. 4 years after the release of Riot, Golden Apes returns with their most mature work to date. What I like the most of Golden Apes, even when some clear influences can be heard through their songs, is that they are not really trying to emulate the characteristic sound of bands such are The Cure or The Sister Of Mercy. They have their own style, setting up a new reference point for dark music fans.
 
When you start listening to this album, you realize that you are in front of something special, its intense atmosphere builds a way of escape for your mind. On its 13 tracks, the band sounds more melancholic and personal than never before, largely due to the wonderful and sad voice of Peer Lebrecht, one of the best vocalist in the current underground scene. The album is characterized by the amazing combination of Peer's voice with a perfect blend of versatile drums programming, crystal guitars, sharp guitar solos, deep bass and atmospheric keyboards.

If I had to select the best song out of M Λ L V S, "Drown" will be my choice, absolutely perfect with captivating lyrics and beautiful guitar lines. "Halving Moons", "Missing" or "Shadowplay" also catch the attention of the listener, merging voice and music like you won't hear by no other band.

As a big fan of now defunct German gothic rock giants Love Like Blood, M Λ L V S makes me feel as I was listening to the legendary album Odysee, possibly the most classy album ever recorded, so if you are into gothic rock/darkwave/wave scene, please don’t miss this masterpiece, you won’t regret it.
