Wormholedeath has welcomed UK funeral doom project Abysmal Growls Of Despair to its roster. The partnership marks a significant moment for the one‑man endeavour led by prolific musician Hangsvart, who is preparing to unveil his latest and most profound work, Torn, on 5 June.
Abysmal Growls Of Despair has been Hangsvart's primary creative outlet since 2013, traversing a wide sonic landscape while remaining rooted in ritualistic dark ambient, drone, and funeral doom. Drawing inspiration from acts such as Funeral Moth, Ataraxie, Comatose Vigil, SUNN O))), and Remembrance—as well as ancient civilisations, spirituality, despair, grief, and madness—Hangsvart has long been open about his struggle with schizophrenia since 2007, a central source of artistic fuel.
Torn is a solemn and uncompromising creation. It unfolds with immense weight and emotional gravity, leaving a deep and lingering impression. This is not an album you simply listen to; it is an album you enter. The record explores the emotional terrain of a husband caring for his wife as she battles cancer—a testament to love, endurance, and vulnerability. Trombones and tubas lend the work a sense of solemn grandeur, while 8‑string guitars and the guttural voice entomb the listener.
Hangsvart comments: "I am very excited to sign with WormholeDeath for my album Torn. Even though I have released a dozen of physical albums with other labels, WormholeDeath is definitely a step above anything I've ever done before, allowing me to reach a much wider audience". Link
