With the third glimpse into their forthcoming live album Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024, pagan metal force Varg lead listeners into darker territory. "Blutaar", the menacing title track from their 2010 studio record, revisits a brutal medieval torture ritual. True to form, frontman Freki delivers the piece with his trademark ferocity, his screams cutting through the mix with unrelenting intensity. Driven by pounding drums and the roar of the crowd, he spreads his wings in a manner echoing the Viking custom he invokes—though here, the blood is replaced by deep crimson stage light.
With "Blutaar", the Coburg‑based band offer a striking preview of the performance captured at their own festival, set to appear as their first live album via Napalm Records on 22 May 2026.
Varg comment on the track:"'Blutaar' is one of the darkest and most intense songs we ever wrote. It's about a brutal but simultaneously captivating execution ritual. Played live, it unfolds with its very own force—more raw, more direct, and emotionally even more gripping".
