Australian darkwave/post‑punk band Chiron will release their new album A Dark Beauty on 17 July through Dark Vinyl, marking a powerful new chapter for one of the genre’s most enduring names. The band was founded by Michael Aliani, former lead vocalist of IKON, who established Chiron in 1997 after departing the iconic Melbourne outfit. He is joined by long‑time collaborators Dino Molinaro (IKON, bass/cello) and Ivan Bullock (electric guitar), forming a trio whose combined history spans nearly a century of dark, alternative, and electronic music.
Though their individual careers have taken them across the globe—from Germany to Tokyo, Brazil, and beyond—A Dark Beauty was shaped entirely in their home city of Melbourne, grounding its expansive sound in a place of personal significance.
The album represents a bold evolution for Chiron. Known for weaving darkwave, post‑punk, and electronic elements, the band now pushes further into modern and progressive territories, crafting a sound that feels both cinematic and deeply intimate. Expect brooding atmospheres, driving basslines, downtuned guitars, pulsing rhythms, and haunting vocal performances that carry Aliani’s unmistakable emotional weight. It is a record that feels vast yet vulnerable—an exploration of shadow, memory, and resilience.
“This album is about finding beauty in the darker currents of human experience,” the band explain. “There’s a strange luminosity that can emerge from grief, longing, and uncertainty. We wanted to capture that contrast — something stark but radiant.”
A Dark Beauty also features notable guest appearances: Kriistal Ann contributes to “Flesh And Blood”, while Yvette Winkler appears on “Oblivion”, adding further depth to the album’s emotional and atmospheric range.
So far, Chiron have unveiled only the title track, offering a first glimpse into the album’s nocturnal, immersive world. You can stream it below. Link
