Post‑punk/darkwave outfit Corlyx returns with “Sweeter Than Blood”, the first single taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album, released via Out Of Line Music. The track arrives with a self‑directed music video by vocalist and songwriter Caitlin Stokes, signalling a striking new era for the band — one defined by a fuller line‑up, sharpened aesthetics, and a deeper dive into alternative rock textures without abandoning their gothic foundations.
The most pivotal shift in Corlyx’s evolution comes with the addition of British drummer Flow Toulman as a permanent member. Writing the new album’s demos with drums at the core injected a more physical, immediate energy into the sessions, pulling the guitar work into heavier, rock‑leaning territory. This expanded palette — spanning darkwave, EBM, post‑punk, and synthpop — now carries a muscular alt‑rock edge that bridges classic 80s architecture with a raw, modern drive. It remains unmistakably Corlyx, but broader, bolder, and more visceral.
Lyrically, “Sweeter Than Blood” draws from the mythology of Dracula, using his obsessive devotion to Mina as a metaphor for dismantling the emotional armour built after years of abandonment. Stokes delivers one of her most affecting vocal performances to date, channelling themes of vulnerability, surrender, and the transformative power of love.
“This song was inspired by Dracula's deep enchantment for his beloved Mina, how his love was sweeter than his bloodlust,” Stokes explains. “I drew parallels from this idea with my own life experiences in having walls up, guarding my heart, and finally meeting the person who showed me what love could be. I drop my sword, letting it flow over me — I no longer need to fight.”
The accompanying video — directed, edited, styled, and production‑designed entirely by Stokes — further cements the band’s new creative chapter. Many of the costumes were handmade by her, bringing Corlyx’s aesthetic into a more cinematic, tactile realm. Mixed and mastered by Brandon Ashley at Dtuned Brighton Productions, the single is crafted to hit with equal force on the dancefloor and on stage.
With “Sweeter Than Blood”, Corlyx step confidently into their next phase — darker, louder, and more emotionally unguarded than ever before. Link
