Swedish melancholic progressive metal institution Evergrey have released “The World Is On Fire”, the latest single taken from their upcoming album Architects Of A New Weave, due 5 June via Napalm Records. The track arrives with a powerful official video and marks a pivotal moment in the band’s current chapter — both musically and personally.
“The World Is On Fire” is steeped in regret and emotional gravity, framing private heartbreak as something vast enough to echo across the world. Towering, cinematic melodies lift the song skyward, while riffs with real weight and bite anchor it in Evergrey’s unmistakable darkness. Tom S. Englund’s vocals cut through with raw honesty, carrying a sense of longing that feels both intimate and apocalyptic.
That longing finds its sharpest edge in the quietest hours — the moment you pull someone close in the dark, only to realise that the promise of safety, of tomorrow, is slipping beyond your grasp. The song’s emotional core is as personal as it is universal, a reminder that the world can burn both outside and within.
The single also marks the official arrival of guitarist Stephen Platt (Scar Symmetry) as a full‑time member of Evergrey. Platt has been performing with the band as a live guitarist throughout 2025, and now steps fully into the lineup.
Evergrey shares their enthusiasm: “We played a lot of shows with Stephen Platt already. He’s an incredibly lovely human being on top of being a brilliant guitar player — we couldn’t be happier to have him join us for real!”
Platt reflects on the announcement: “I’m so happy to become the new guitarist of Evergrey. I’ve been a fan of the band for a long time and am extremely honoured to have been asked by this group of incredible musicians and people. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds!”
“The World Is On Fire” follows the previously released title track “Architects Of The New Weave”, offering another glimpse into the emotional and sonic architecture of the upcoming album. More details about the record can be found on Terra Relicta’s earlier coverage over HERE.
With this new single, Evergrey continue to refine their signature blend of melancholy, heaviness and cinematic scope — and with Platt now officially in the fold, the band enters its next era with renewed fire. Link
