The transatlantic dark electro/darkwave duo Lunar Paths releases its first single of 2025, "Zero Trust Mentality," and its accompanying music video. "Zero Trust Mentality is part of an innovative collaboration with two other bands, one from Ireland and the other from Australia. The duo is keeping details of that project under wraps—for now.
Veterans of the original northern UK goth scene, ex-Skeletal Family and Cold Dance duo Diane Dubois and Kevin Hunter formed Lunar Paths in 2021 after a chance encounter on social media reunited them. Despite the thousands of miles that now separate their homes and studios, they soon discovered that they had retained an uncannily intuitive feel for each other’s creative processes. All their work is done online, but after decades apart, they are now looking forward to meeting each other again face to face. Since their last collaboration, the music scene has changed and developed in so many exciting and unforeseeable ways, and this is reflected in the eclectic blend of styles that characterizes Lunar Paths.
Their roots, deep in the '80s post-punk scene, undoubtedly played a part in determining their sound, but then so did the many seismic changes in the musical landscape that took place over the last four decades. Each new track astounds and surprises because each one is different from its predecessors – and yet, they do undeniably have a sound that is recognizably Lunar Paths.
Lunar Paths comments about the new single and video: "Do you remember the week towards the end of 2024 when Meta had a meltdown? We do, and at the time we were convinced that our socials were being hacked. It was a terrifying, stressful, punch in the gut sort of feeling: the fear that so much hard work could be callously dismantled and destroyed by forces unknown. We took the necessary steps to protect ourselves, but as we were doing so, we couldn’t help but notice how the language of cybersecurity websites was like a ‘found poem’, its topic the paranoid, precarious times in which we live."
