Dutch symphonic metal powerhouse Delain has released a brand-new single and video, "We Are Fire", while simultaneously announcing a major creative transformation and the departure of vocalist Diana Leah.
In an official statement, the band revealed that Diana has decided to step away from Delain after several years to pursue new opportunities in life. While acknowledging the sadness surrounding her departure, the band expressed its gratitude for her contributions and wished her every success in the future, adding that she will always remain a part of the Delain family.
Looking ahead, Delain has chosen to embrace an ambitious new artistic direction, opening the project to a diverse range of musicians, vocalists and creative influences. The band's evolving vision brings together an impressive roster of renowned artists, including Marko Hietala (ex-Nightwish), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie, Illumishade), Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering), Johanna Kurkela (Auri, Eye Of Melian), Patty Gurdy, Noa Gruman, Paolo Ribaldini, and Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation).
According to Delain, each guest artist will contribute their own unique identity and musical perspective to the project, with several also joining the band on stage. The first taste of this newly expanded creative universe arrives with "We Are Fire", featuring vocal performances from Fabienne Erni, Noa Gruman, and Paolo Ribaldini.
At the heart of Delain remains founder, songwriter and keyboardist Martijn Westerholt, alongside core members Ludovico Cioffi, Ronald Landa, and Sander Zoer. Together, they are steering the band into a fresh chapter defined by collaboration, artistic diversity and an expanded musical horizon.
Speaking about the new single, Martijn Westerholt commented: "'We Are Fire' is about the inner fire that keeps us moving forward, even when the path ahead is uncertain. It's about daring to cross boundaries and refusing to give up on what we believe in. To me, it captures the spirit of what Delain is becoming: a place where different voices and personalities can come together, each bringing something unique while sharing the same fire."
With "We Are Fire", Delain not only introduces the first glimpse of its new creative identity but also signals the beginning of an exciting chapter that promises to expand the band's sound and artistic reach while honouring the legacy that has defined it for nearly two decades. Link
