The trans‑Atlantic ethereal/darkwave duo Vox Umbra steps boldly into the scene with their debut EP, Unchained — a six‑track journey through darkness, defiance, and transcendence. Accompanied by a striking video for the single “On The Right”, the release introduces a soundscape where melancholy and beauty intertwine.
Written and produced across two continents by Tiffany (Seattle, USA) and Florian (Amiens, France), Unchained was forged in the quiet hours: late‑night file transfers, dawn vocal takes, and a shared fascination with shadow and light. Each song inhabits a liminal space where longing collides with resistance, and fragility is sharpened into strength.
Thematically, the record unfolds as a narrative arc: from isolation in “Cold Heart”, through disillusionment in “On The Right”, to spiritual reckoning in “Iron Serpent”, and finally release in the title track “Unchained”. Water and fire imagery threads throughout — rivers carrying grief away, candle flames refusing to die — creating a sonic world that feels both cinematic and intimate.
At its core, Unchained is about breaking cycles: of grief, silence, and the walls we build around ourselves. It is both a mirror and a torch — reflecting the shadows we inhabit while lighting a path forward. With this debut, Vox Umbra invite listeners to confront the darkness, step through it, and emerge transformed. The previously released video "Cold Heart" can be checked out over HERE. Link
