Poland's industrial darkwave duo World, Interrupted has dropped the first video single, "Shadows Of My Mind", from its upcoming debut album, Sorrow, Bring Me Joy, due on 23 October via Requiem Records.
The band keeps trying to find beauty where it may seem that there is none. In this process, you will find dark, heavy atmospherics mixed with cinematic ambience, but still with often danceable rhythms. The album delves into personal thoughts and feelings, continuing the search for self-reflection and solace from previous EPs.
The album invites the listener into a dark chamber to focus and get into the mood right from the start with the opening track, "The Ritual". The following tracks, "Shadows Of My Mind" and "Heartbeat", attempt to keep the listener in a trance-like mood while simultaneously giving them some room to dance. The middle part of the album brings a bit more light and air with "Bez Ciebie Nic" and "Now I'm Your God". The latter part of the album dives back into the dark, with a distinctive industrial and EBM flavour. The closing track brings back the ritualistic atmosphere from the opening track. As a bonus, the album also features a remix of "Bez Ciebie Nic" by Hiroszyma, with his signature minimal synth style.
World, Interrupted on "Shadows Of My Mind": "The song is about feeling lost in unbearable loneliness and intrusive thoughts, searching for a 'savior'. The accompanying psychedelic video reflects this with a long journey through the woods. The song revolves around a repetitive, modulated bass theme that sits in the background throughout the whole track, giving way to other elements, including increasingly emotional vocals. The song breaks down around the middle and then builds up tension until a culmination with loud guitars and vocals, imitating a cry for help.
World, Interrupted combines cold, dark synthesiser sounds with deep electronic bass and strong female vocals, with the occasional distorted guitar. This results in unsettling yet emotional and energetic music with a dense atmosphere. The goal is to create music that you can dance to with your eyes closed, deeply immersed in the sound. The duo formed in 2020 and released two EPs, Deception, Follow Me (2021) and When You See Me, Run (2024), via Detriti Records. Link
