"Forged on a cold winter night, inspired by contrasting light and shadows landscape. From the deepest quiet forest breeze into the storm blast devastation. A travel between Dusk and Dawn, brilliant sight and darkness converged into sound." That is pretty much everything WinterMoonShade has to say about itself. Black/death metal genre connoisseurs, though, have more to say about this young three-member band from Portugal, and they spare not on commendations. WinterMoonShade was established only about a year ago in a little town on the west coast in Portugal. It all started with a vocalist and guitarist called Haze, who got a desire to forge a band digging into the landscapes of black and death metal. His former schoolmate Zefir joined him with his drums right away. The original idea was to start as a two-piece group, but Fenrir came along with the concept, and everything emerged. Then they decided to record bass on the tracks, and Fenrir fitted in with temptation to be a permanent member of WinterMoonShade.
Their music is inspired by nature and spirituality and by mixing those two with their personal perceptions, of course. As for bands, Cradle of Filth, Moonspell, Immortal, Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth,… refer to their main influences. Some folk and fusion music bands like Wardruna, Heilung, or Urze de Lumegetting also got their attention.
Tune to [Dark] UNKNOWN this Thursday, 4 March, on Terra Relicta radio, and find out for yourself. Besides the debut album, some promo-demos will be spinning too, and live interactions with Haze. That was his idea, and I thank him for that. Enjoy these, as Haze would say, dark melodic nature whispering tales.
