PETALS AND THORNS

The American duo Petals And Thorns, coming from Cleveland, Ohio, are an act that shouldn't be missed by any fan of female fronted darkwave/gothic rock. Just recently, on 31st of October, the two released their sophomore full-length album entitled The Maid And The Blacksmith. Six long years after the debut, The Broken Mirror, Petals And Thorns are back with a captivating and mature new album. The Maid And The Blacksmith with its dark, sometimes fragile, ethereal, yet many times danceable, but still strong, pounding and metallic gritty guitars and expansive use of haunting electronics that make a good company to angelic female vocals, is meant to give a good company to dark souls this winter.

Petals And Thorns formed in 2009 and is a collaboration between vocalist Mia Petals and multi-instrumentalist/producer Johnny Thorns. Musician Johnny had been working on a project intended for female vocals starting in 2006. He had attempted to work with three different vocalists between 2006-2008, before meeting Mia (via the internet) through a mutual friend; only to then realize they had both known each other earlier in life. Taking some time to get acquainted musically, they didn't release any material publicly, until 2011. The initial Petals And Thorns demos were self-leaked as free downloads online, and reached around 3000 downloads before the band decided to remove them in light of an official finished self-made release. They debuted with the album The Broken Mirror in October 2014 and soon gained the deserved recognition.

After the release of debut album, Petals And Thorns, were not satisfied with the idea of just releasing music out into the world without the financial backing to promote it properly through normal means (via touring or advertising), the duo set out to instead do what they could for bigger promotion of the album by filiming DIY music videos, one song at a time, starting in November of 2014. After that the band got even more features in different media, like web-magazines and radios.

Live Shows: The band opened four times for the Cleveland based band Lestat, starting in 2012 until 2014 prior to the album release. They also played as a support for Stoneburner in 2014, William Control in 2015 and played a New Year's Eve show in Buffalo, NY.

In January 2016 the duo officially announced that they have been writing their second album, and that they will be working with long time Cleveland area studio engineer/producer, Brandon Youngs of Track Six Recording Studios. They also announced that they do not expect to see the album finished until sometime late 2018, at the very earliest, but it took two more years, and now it's finally out, titled The Maid And The Blacksmith. A mixture of darkwave, alternative rock, gothic rock and some metal, with female captivating vocals and catchy riffs, should appeal to a wide range of dark music lovers. The band comments: "We make honest music in the era of illusions."
