Canadian gothic metal trio Malacoda, who just recently, on the 2nd of April, released a new EP Crawling Chaos, are premiering now the official guitar playthrough video for the track "Deadlights" right here on Terra Relicta web magazine. Malacoda's new stuff, the Crawling Chaos EP is the band’s first new release since 2018’s Restless Dreams and is a return to the band’s more cinematic and gothic roots as heard on Ritualis Aeterna (2016) as well as a deeper exploration of melodic vocal hooks as heard on their self-titled debut (2014).
Guitarist Wes MacDonald comments about the track: ""Deadlights" was written from a drum beat, which gives the overall vibe and great flow between sections. I love how the melody and dark vibe of this song shines in the keys while the guitars and drums keep it moving forward."
Malacoda offers an intriguing, captivating and modern approach to gothic metal. Even though that this genre is in a rather decline for quite some years now, Canadians don't fear to return to their roots. Still, Malacoda doesn't play gothic metal in the typical "European" way, but rather than that they add their own thing, and mix it with a bit of classic heavy/power metal, some doom and symphonic metal. The guitar-driven songs have a catchy drive and are full of dramatic moments, are dense and atmospheric and that makes them dynamic and enjoyable to listen to.
Malacoda recorded Crawling Chaos at Old Haunt Recording Studio in the winter 2019 - spring 2020 with producer Lucas Di Mascio. Mastering was done by Dan Dubois at Schematic Sound in the summer of 2020. There are also guests that need to be mentioned; the vocalists James Delbridge (Lycanthro) in the song “From The Depths”, and Beth Wilson in the songs “Crawling Chaos” and “The Harsh Law”, the drummer's Victor Boechat in "Crawling Chaos" and "Deadlights", and Elie Bertrand (Scarlet Sins) in “From The Depths” and “The Harsh Law”.
