Livewire is the first release of Israelian duo Demoncast, who hides in its line up well known industrial artist Ptyl and rock/metal singer Ariel Aviad. This combination works quite good up here and offers something for a wider crowd. To tell the truth I was a bit afraid of this release, because after hearing the first track "Bitch", it left me quite cold and disappointed, although this one is an example of hard-hitting upbeat, danceable EBM-cyber-industrial-electro sound with rock elements. The problem is that it's is too much ragged, the vocals work out silly and I almost left this EP unheard in its entirety. But, just recently I gave it another try and what follows after before mentioned "Bitch" is very satisfactorily.
Demoncast show the huge creative potential in eight minutes long epic semi ballad "Crack", where the tension rises until it explodes in enigmatic last part of the track. Sensual and seductive female vocals over the hypnotic, yet mellow but very dark bass layers works great. Strong industrial beats, kind of Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels elements mixed with some sections that reminds to Eurythmics. Vocal duets between the two are fantastic. Just listen to danceable "Poseidon's Curse". There are so many interesting moments, catchy melodies that get under your skin, for example in cyber-industrial based "Bad Intel", where Demoncast uses very charming, yet strong samples to create crushing, still emotional provocative atmosphere. They are not afraid to insert gothy elements, pop vibrations, spacey ambiances and with elegance transform them in hard driving and psychedelic industrial storm. Here and there even some interesting alternative guitar lines are heard. I must mention also new wave elements that are witnessed all over the Livewire.
The best comes in the end with "Immortal". Such nicely flowing, dramatic and passionate, almost erotic vibrations, excellent driving guitar. Sometimes Demoncast take you on the edge of madness and on the very next moment they settle the things with tenderness in their sound. They differ from thousands of artists in todays alternative/industrial/electro scene with their specific nature of compositions and variations the two use for their musical output. The final result gives a satisfaction and I just wonder which direction they'll use in the future. I certainly hope that their primal goal is not the track "Bitch". Oh yes, a little bit more elegant and elaborate artwork could be also taken in consideration.
