Born For Bliss, real masters of something that could be described as psychedelic/dark/indie/wave rock, are back with a new EP which is already the third one linked to their latest full-lenght Falling Back To Never, in my opinion a true jewel inside the alternative dark music scene, released in October 2015. I think that it's unnecessary to mention that the Dutch trio was formed in 1995 by ex-Clan Of Xymox member Frank Weyzig and since then released three albums. Gothic rockers should remember Born For Bliss also for contributing one track on the legendary album Snake Killer by German cult band Love Like Blood. Ok, that's history, like said before Born For Bliss released last year a stunning new album and the new EP in question, Falling Back, offers some kind of a bonus to it.

The EP consists of five tracks; the amazing, maybe one of the best songs from Falling Back To Never is the rather "xymox" tinged almost epic title song, which also got its remix, then they made a risky move by covering Led Zeppelin's "Your Time Is Gonna Come", as well coming up with a remixed version, and an instrumental version of "Dragon", a song that Frank wrote during his time as guitarist of Clan Of Xymox, but I first heard it as a bonus on their second album, Between Living And Dreaming.

"Falling Back" is an amazing and higly seductive song, full of atmosphere and captivating melody, like everything enriched with Frank's rather warm, hypnotic and seductive voice, but its remix done by All Hallows Eve, whose mastermind is ex-Garden Of Delight, ex-House Of Usher guitarist Tom O'Connell offers even more. It's like a mix between the most atmospheric goth of Fields Of The Nephilim and typical Born For Bliss convergent rock drive. As well the featured new version of "Dragon" is amazing, even if the track is only an instrumental, the ambiance and the whole feeling is so very multidimensional and it really takes the listener with its flow. Then it's needless to say that Frank is one of the best guitarist and composers inside the dark alternative indie rock (if I can say so) spectrum, and if who than he can do an adequate cover of any of Led Zeppelin songs, he choose "Your Time Is Gonna Come", a classic from the Led Zeppelin's debut album. Even if this cover is great, nicely and almost perfectly done, I don't like to say it but it's the weakest point here, because it simply doesn't bring forth all the necessary magic as I expected, that's why it's risky to cover such classics, but still it's well done and in my opinion the remixed version is a bit better, once again done by Tom O'Connell, it's heavier, multilayered and a bit darker.

Born For Bliss always offer to their fans a complex but often coherent and technically perfect sound. Guitar job is extraordinary, there are so many captivating and catchy well refined melodies. There are plenty of synths and different electronic loops used that addtionally give to the songs some kind of a constant cinematic feel. Soundscapes are quite hypnotic, yet everything touched by Frank Weyzig has a graceful melancholic vibe inherited in it. Don't be afraid of some experimentations and psychedelic elements that this band likes to use, they are perfectly blended into the whole structure of compositions and that makes them even more interesting and dynamic. This EP alters a bit their already great songs and shows Born For Bliss in one of the darkest versions for now, it's another testimony of what this Dutch trio is capable and another proof that we are dealing with one of the greatest bands inside the genre.
