The US‑based dark ambient/electronic project Abel Autopsy has unveiled its debut full‑length release — the instrumental and cinematic uunder. Envisioned as the first chapter in a three‑part series — to be followed by overr and outt — uunder explores dark, melancholic, shape‑shifting worlds that drift between light and shadow.

The album was crafted using a unique "hall of mirrors" sonic approach, with layers that appear straightforward at first, revealing their subtleties with repeated listening. For example, the opening guitar in the title track is interwoven with a more prominent synth line, creating a sense of shifting depth.

Abel Autopsy explains: "This started in my youth - pulling apart various musical instruments (battery powered) while in the woods of Appalachia. There was an eerie, ethereal vibe, almost like something 'other' in the wilderness with me. That permeates through all of the songs and is woven in the mental tapestry throughout. This album is an exercise in capturing that - the balance between light and shadow, feeling another 'presence' with you that is not entirely from here".

uunder is an exercise in dramatic minimalism, featuring evocative, manipulated vocal textures and warped atmospherics. Recorded in the artist's studio using custom‑modified equipment, the album presents a vivid inner world shaped by influences such as Coil, The Haxan Cloak, early‑2010s witch‑house, and 2000s video‑game soundtracks.

Abel Autopsy is a sonic architect working at the intersection of industrial, electronic, metal, and cinematic darkness. As a long‑time collaborator and co‑writer for pioneering industrial rock band 16volt — contributing to albums including FullBlackHabit, American Porn Songs, and More Of Less — he helped define an era that fused seething aggression with sleek synthcraft, leaving a lasting mark on the genre.

Abel is one half of Autopsy Club (with Matt Brown of A Pale Horse Named Death and Seventh Void), creating '90s‑inspired dark pop with a modern edge, and a key collaborator in subNatural with synthwave innovator Ritch Napierkowski (Ritchual, Adoration Destroyed). Under the moniker Conduit Closing, he composes symphonic, film‑ready works — some featured in the Cannes‑nominated short film The Third Experience (Aeyron Moore).

A former foundation‑level employee of Pittsburgh Modular Synthesisers, Abel brings deep expertise in modular synthesis and sound design to every project. His remix credits include Halo In Reverse, Zombie Girl, and Sebastian Komor, further expanding his reach across the underground.

His new solo album, uunder, is a cinematic, instrumental descent into moody, occult‑tinged soundscapes. Stripped of traditional song structures and conceived as a journey, it is an album of atmosphere, tension, and emotional gravity: dark ambient forged in the crucible of industrial experimentation and melancholic whispers. With cover art by Sam Hayles (Doseprod) and a growing network of high‑calibre collaborators, uunder marks Abel Autopsy's most haunting, introspective, and filmic statement to date — an invitation to disappear into the shadows.
