Australian symphonic metal and gothic rock outfit Carmeria have unveiled “Caelira,” the first single from their forthcoming third studio album Ex Cathedra, arriving on 30 October. Accompanied by an official music video, the track offers a sharp first look at the band’s evolving sound, where their trademark orchestral drama and gothic atmosphere meet a more direct melodic‑rock edge.
One of the album’s most confrontational moments, “Caelira” delves into betrayal, disillusionment and the corrosive effect ambition can have on trust. Beneath its anger lies a quiet grief for something once cherished — and the realisation that resilience sometimes means release rather than reconciliation.
Written and arranged by vocalist, songwriter and producer Jordan von Grae, the track began as an instrumental demo intended for his hard‑rock project Bad Moon Born before finding its true home on Ex Cathedra. As the album’s thematic gateway, “Caelira” introduces the central ideas Carmeria explore across ten tracks: suffering, endurance, and the possibility of rediscovering joy, love and meaning despite hardship.
Musically, the single reflects the broader evolution heard throughout Ex Cathedra. Carmeria retain the sweeping orchestration, gothic imagery and soaring choruses that define their sound, while injecting a sharper melodic‑rock energy — a balance von Grae describes as “Misery You Can Dance To.”
The official video for “Caelira”, designed by Jordan von Grae, produced with Mishka Bobrov, and directed, filmed and edited by Greg Oroth, expands the album’s visual identity. Embracing a vampiric masquerade aesthetic, Carmeria steps into a world of glittering masks, lavish garments, and sweeping cloaks—a theatrical counterpart to the emotional weight of the music.
