US electro-industrial act genCAB has emerged from the shadows with a powerful new single, “Open Grave”, released today, 31 October, via Metropolis Records. A visceral blend of dancefloor intensity and emotional vulnerability, the track marks the band’s first release of 2025 and signals a raw, introspective chapter in their sonic journey.
Described by founder David Dutton as “a dancefloor confession”, “Open Grave” dives deep into themes of self-sabotage and emotional collapse. The song’s pulsing beats and accessible structure belie its heavy lyrical content—a juxtaposition that makes it both cathartic and unsettling.
“I'm a self-destructive person, and 'Open Grave' is about lying in my own mess that I create for myself,” Dutton shares. “Most of the advice we get is to keep our inner pain hidden and so we isolate further. So, here it is for everyone else to hear, whenever they feel like hearing it.”
The track’s emotional honesty is matched by its sonic clarity, offering listeners a space to lose themselves while confronting the darker corners of their psyche.
Alongside the original track, genCAB has released an Unsolved Remix by labelmate Lost Signal, adding a fresh layer of interpretation to the single’s haunting core. The release also includes a cover of “Last”, a 1992 classic by Nine Inch Nails, paying homage to one of the genre’s foundational influences while reimagining it through genCAB’s distinct lens.
While “Open Grave” may be more accessible than some of genCAB’s previous work, its message is anything but diluted. Dutton reflects on the universality of pain and the need for honest expression: “At the end of the day, sometimes life is as simple as a dance track and an easy outlet to lose yourself. Who knows what's left when you tear yourself apart, but at least it's an honest practice.”
With “Open Grave”, genCAB offers not just a song, but a mirror—inviting listeners to confront their own undoing, one beat at a time. Link
