Finnish dark folk alchemist Iterum Nata is preparing to unveil a new chapter of shadowed introspection with the release of Heartwood on 17 April via Nordvis Produktion. As a first glimpse into this transformative work, the project now presents the haunting lead single “Forgiveness Undone”, featuring none other than King Dude.
Emerging once more from frost‑bitten Nordic landscapes where the labyrinthine spirit of 70s progressive rock intertwines with the visceral undercurrents of extreme metal, Iterum Nata returns with renewed force. Multi‑instrumentalist Jesse Heikkinen (Hexvessel, The Abbey) describes Heartwood as the project’s most emotionally charged and uncompromising creation to date.
Taking its name from the Latin phrase for “born again,” Iterum Nata has always embodied personal metamorphosis — but Heartwood marks a deeper rupture. Conceived during a period of intense inner upheaval, the album channels a raw, defiant energy that shattered the boundaries of Heikkinen’s earlier compositions. The result is a deliberately unrestrained sonic journey, weaving together jagged progressive structures, ethereal atmospheres, and moments of stark vulnerability.
The album also carries a lineage of virtuosity. Heikkinen’s father — a celebrated electric guitarist ranked among Finland’s greatest players in the 1990s — left a legacy that pulses through every intricate passage of Heartwood. This heritage merges with a spontaneous lyrical approach: all lyrics were written in a single, high‑pressure session during recording, allowing the songs to reveal their meanings only after the final notes had settled.
With Heartwood, Iterum Nata steps into a new creative era — one shaped by upheaval, liberation, and the quiet revelations found in the aftermath. Link
