Atlanta, Georgia (USA)-based darkwave outfit Now After Nothing have unveiled the official video for “Entangled”, the closing track from their latest release, the Artificial Ambivalence EP, which was released in September 2024.
The song explores the suffocating reality of being consumed by people or situations that bring little more than turmoil and anguish. Lyrically, “Entangled” captures a moment of stark clarity, as its protagonist wrestles both physically and emotionally with the need to break free.
Visually, the band reimagines these themes through a series of hazy, dreamlike vignettes designed to echo memory, sensation, and the overwhelming flood of emotion. It is an unconventional choice for a single, opening with nearly two minutes of ethereal instrumental ambience before unfolding into a uniquely structured composition.
Founder Matt Spatial describes the track as one of his most cherished creations: “It’s one of my most favoured songs that I’ve ever written. I felt very strongly about wanting to bring a visual dimension to it. From the soothing intro through to the climactic cacophony of multiple, intermingling voices – representing the chaos and intensity of emotions – it is certainly the most ambitious song I’ve ever written and recorded.”
With “Entangled”, Now After Nothing continues to push the boundaries of darkwave, pairing introspective lyricism with striking visual artistry to deliver a release that is both haunting and deeply resonant. Link
