Italy’s Urluk have released their new full‑length, Memories In Fade, on Pest Records. With this release, the band further sharpens and broadens its artistic vision, moving beyond the confines of black‑doom into a richer, more emotionally layered sound. Still rooted in their trademark darkness, Memories In Fade folds in influences from '90s alternative rock, ambient soundscapes and subtle neo‑folk touches, creating a fluid and immersive listening experience. Rather than a set of standalone tracks, the album unfolds as a cohesive narrative, each piece contributing to a wider, more introspective journey.
Fiadh Productions has also confirmed that a dedicated cassette edition of Memories In Fade is due in the coming months, offering a thoughtfully curated physical counterpart that enhances both the album's atmosphere and its collectable appeal.
Following the atmospheric, inward‑looking path of their earlier work, this new record marks a clear evolution in the band's sound, embracing a more sinuous and emotionally driven approach. Memories In Fade expands Urluk's black‑doom foundations with layers of '90s alternative rock, ambient textures and neo‑folk influences, resulting in a complex yet coherent sonic narrative. Eschewing conventional song structures, the album leans into a storytelling quality, where each track contributes to a broader, enveloping experience while remaining firmly grounded in the project's artistic identity.
Across the record, clean vocals and fierce screams alternate, set against a varied palette of riffs that shift from melancholic and brooding to sharp and dynamic. The mood remains consistently dark and absorbing, reflecting both personal introspection and the uncertainties of contemporary life. The result is a work that feels almost cinematic in scope, balancing weight and subtlety in equal measure.
Recorded with meticulous attention to atmosphere and texture, Memories In Fade represents Urluk's ongoing exploration of emotional depth within extreme metal. The band continue to weave together local identity, narrative sensibility and musical experimentation, offering listeners a journey that feels both intimate and expansive.
Urluk formed in July 2020 in Lombardy, Italy. Their name refers to a nocturnal bird of prey native to the region, reflecting a strong connection to their local landscape — an element also expressed visually through booklet photographs taken by the band members themselves. Their sound, described as blackened doom melancholic metal, blends black metal and doom into a dark, reflective sonic terrain. Link
