Australian cinematic gothic artist The Effigy delves into gothic realms with a dark reimagining of Bruno Mars' "Talking To The Moon". Transforming the track in the style of a symphonic power ballad, The Effigy delivers a beautiful version in the distinctive cinematic sound.
The Effigy manifests a haunting atmosphere through delicate piano melodies, gentle yet emotive vocal performances and heavy guitars. "Talking To The Moon" dynamically ebbs and flows with moments of theatricality infusing a burst of power into the mix. Gradually building as a whole across the track - stunning orchestration, thundering distortion and Effy's belted lyrics, see the song intensify to a thrilling height. "Talking To The Moon" follows The Effigy's 2021 Christmas cover release of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" which also received a shadowy metamorphosis.
The Effigy comments: "This is my take on Bruno Mars' viral hit "Talking To The Moon". Despite being in a major key, the original song has always sounded a little unhinged to me. I decided to lean into that vibe and make it less romantic and more 'deranged ex you ghosted who never quite got over it'. I rearranged the song into a minor key and used heavier and symphonic elements to add some melodrama. If you like the original, I think you'll appreciate this symphonic make-over - and if the original doesn't quite do it for you, I got you covered."
The Effigy draws influences from the likes of Garbage, Joy Division, Evanescence and Keane, and is thematically inspired by gothic and folk imagery, along with mythology. Check out the brand new single "Talking To The Moon" in the lyric video form below. Link
