žFrench post-punk/dark rock duo Varsovie just released a brand new single and video "Pochodeň číslo jedna". This is the second unveiled single from the Varsovie's fifth album entitled Pression à froid (Eng.: under cold pressure), scheduled for release on the 6th of October by Icy Cold Records.
"Pochodeň číslo jedna" (“torch number one” in Czech) was the signature of student Jan Palach when he set himself on fire in Prague in 1969 to protest against the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Soviet troops - other “torches” will follow. The song is an updated projection in the form of a trajectory around this act, its consequences and, more generally, the notion of resistance.
The video was shot in various places, with several indistinguishable characters, forming only one movement, highlighting this idea of determination, in a hypnotic march, similar to dancing. The lyrics and the English translation can be found in the description part of the YouTube video.
