Nocturne - Nocturne (2016)

Band: Nocturne
Album title: Nocturne
Release date: 15 January 2015
Label: Unlight Productions

Nocturne's first album offers nine songs where strong epic impacts with varied melodic lines are supported by gloomy atmospheric keyboards and fine vocals in background. Music has many different characters, but the main thing is very dark and extremely dynamic sound of all instruments. Vocals show two different sides, one evil and the other one friendly - in short, excellent! Keyboards are definitely the biggest complement to the sound and upgrade the beauty of melodic guitar passages. The addictive atmosphere all over helps you to forget the physical world that surrounds you.

Northumbria - Markland (2017)

Band: Northumbria
Album title: Markland
Release date: 21 March 2017
Label: Cryo Chamber

Markland (meaning “Forest Land”) the second album from ice cold soundscapers Jim field and Dorian Williamson as a duo by the name Northumbria is their second effort on Cryo Chamber. This album starts off with images recalled of old ships sailing the Atlantic Ocean searching for new land, stricken with sickness and unstable mental states due to losing sleep. The wall of thick and foggy sounds lull you in and out of consciousness taking you on a ride not knowing where you may end up, what curiosities lay ahead in your travels.

öOoOoOoOoOo - Samen (2016)

Band: öOoOoOoOoOo
Album title: Samen
Release date: 21 October 2016
Label: Apathia Records

Samen is the debut album from; öOoOoOoOoOo ('Chenille' in French or 'Caterpillar' in English). The unique fusion of avant-garde rock with too many genres and influences to list; a total mind-fuck of perfected abstract art, music and naked bodies. Full range female vocals, at times reminiscent of Evanescence and exceptional musical stylings take the listener on a journey through a schizophrenic multi-verse of experimental extravagance. The star of the show is the insane temptress and lead vocalist extraordinaire; Asphodel, who I believe takes her name from Greek Mythology, specifically the 'Asphodel Meadows' as written of by the likes of Homer and also Oscar Wilde in 'The Picture of Dorian Grey'. This album is more like licorice or marzipan than chocolate; by which I mean that almost everyone likes chocolate; not everyone likes licorice, but those who do REALLY like licorice!

NU:N - Naked Until Noema (2016)

Band: NU:N
Album title: Naked Until Noema
Release date: 31 October 2016
Label: Black Genesis Records

"Gothic rock is not dead!", is the phrase, rather worn out one though, but it came to my mind right after the first listen to this album. After their rather mellow debut, Nothing Unveils Nothing, but still an album that reached almost a cult status among the followers of the genre, the Portuguese trio NU:N returns in such a great style with their sophomore full-lenght, its name is Naked Until Noema. It perfectly captures the pivotal essence of goth rock, it's dark, mythical, obscure and while listening to it transcends time, space and even perception. It's a huge step forward in comparison to before mentioned debut, and it's difficult to really compare it to anything done before inside the genre, even though it incorporates all the typical elements specific for the genre, but still it goes one step further, it's a declination and absolutely not just another worn out copy of big names.

Orkan - Livlaus (2015)

Band: Orkan
Album title: Livlaus
Release date: 11 September 2015
Label: Dark Essence Records

Livlaus is unquestionably quintessentional black metal, other influences are woren in, ranging from thrash to almost black'n'rolll elements. Right off the bat with "Fanden På Veggen", it becomes immediately clear that this is not your average run-of-the-mill black metal album, with mid-paced songs and odd tempo changes interlaced with weird little unexpected twists in melody. Livlaus is on excellent opus and it was worth waiting for it. Definitlyy a must listen to for any fans of black metal, and in particular for fans of Norwegian underground.
