Sweden’s masters of dark progressive metal, Evergrey, return with renewed force as they unveil their latest single, “Oxygen!”, just days before embarking on a massive European tour alongside Katatonia. The track captures the band’s essence with striking intensity — weaving haunting atmospheres, crushing riffs, and lyrical depth that confronts themes of depression and inner struggle.
The single marks a new chapter for Evergrey, powered by the addition of drummer Simen Sandnes, a revitalised production team led by Tom S. Englund and Vikram Shankar (Within Temptation, Silent Skies), and the precision mixing of Adam "Nolly" Getgood, renowned for his work with Periphery, Sleep Token, and Architects. The result is a sound that feels as vital as the band’s earliest work, yet unmistakably modern. “Oxygen!” emerges as both a desperate cry for resilience and a cathartic release — a visceral plea for air in the suffocating grip of turmoil.
On Monday, 10 November, Evergrey will bring their new single to life on stage as they join forces with Katatonia for a six-week run across Europe and the UK. With support from Klogr, the tour spans 32 shows, beginning in Turku, Finland, and culminating in a triumphant homecoming in Stockholm, Sweden, just before Christmas.
Evergrey on “Oxygen!”: “We’re thrilled to unleash our new single, ‘OXYGEN!’. This is Evergrey at our most explosive — almost certainly our heaviest track yet, packed with crushing riffs, vibrant key changes, and soaring melodies that awaken the soul. Lyrically, it embodies the suffocating weight of inner darkness, yet symbolizes the relentless fight to break free and grasp that fleeting breath of hope. We’ve bled for this one and can’t wait for you to live in its intensity. This is us, like you’ve never heard before!” Link
