SUMMER BREEZE OPEN AIR 2022 - DAY 4

On the last festival day, it seemed we would finally get ourselves out of the mud and put our better shoes on since we woke up on a sunny morning. But no, fuck you, sun! In the early afternoon, it started raining buckets, and after about an hour and a half or even two of heavy pouring, the sky opened, and it was like nothing had happened. At least till you had to walk, and eventually you did. One would think mud is mud. Well, it's not. It advances to some kind of glue; you can imagine what follows... With some tons of straw, we could probably build a brand-new city in no time. And, what a lovely metal city it would be...

You can't fight nature or feel free to if you enjoy losing. Anyway, we worked in the press tent as usual, but when the press conference started, we decided to go with the Avatarium performance instead. Swedish doom metal/rock outfit with blues and Celtic influences offered 45 minutes of slow yet uplifting sounds of its old and new discography, with beautiful Jennie-Ann Smith singing and playing acoustic guitar. The bend left out its brand-new material (including two already released tracks) from its upcoming fifth full-length, Death, Where Is Your Sting, to be released on 21 October.

Dark Funeral was next on our list; unfortunately, we only managed to catch the second half of its performance since the two gigs partly covered each other. Also, Dark Funeral was supposed to play last on the main stage, but for some reason (perhaps the band's performing at Motocultor Festival the next day), it performed earlier. Visually monochromatic well-served ten black metal tracks, mostly old hits, and three, "Let The Devil In", "When I'm Gone", and "Leviathan", from its fresh full-length We Are The Apocalypse. Although there were a lot of "we" in front of the stage, still not enough for the apocalypse to happen - we'll, therefore, have to prolong the longing for it some more. ;)

We then headed to the camp to rest for some hours and returned for the Agrypnie performance at 21.35 on Wera Tool Rebel Stage. German progressive/post-black metallers probably did their best, but the sound was far from the one on their records. Instrumentally it was fine, while vocals failed to integrate.

Five minutes after Agrypnie concluded its performance, the USA-based (originally mostly Norwegian) aggrotech/industrial/groove metal band Combichrist started its gig at, fortunately, near T-Stage. An hour-long performance provided powerful electro-industrial sounds accompanied by provocative/rebellious lyrics, altogether resulting in a highly engaged audience. If there wasn't choreography, then charismatic Andy LaPlegua made it look like it was. "Hate Like Me", "Not My Enemy", "Compliance"... - all perfectly executed. One could not ask for more except to be lasting more time.

Then we had to be in front of the main stage, like in no time, since Hypocrisy had already started. Swedish melodic dark/death metal legends delivered a memorable, atmospheric show - only exaggerated with fog a little. Out of 13 tracks, we got to hear three from their latest release, Worship, and right from the first one, Penetralia, "Impotent God". The last performed track, "Roswell 47", was most likely the highlight to most of us there.

We intended to attend the Igorrr performance, but since it would be over an hour and a half to wait, we went to sleep instead. In the morning, the sun was already beating down. It almost felt like some sick joke. Though, considering how we treat nature, we deserve every such joke, and probably even the apocalypse. Well, until it happens, we always have music to enjoy in it. And, now again - live shows and music festivals. Hear you from some other one, and stay tuned to Terra Relicta dark music web magazine and radio. Cheers!
