M'ERA LUNA 2023 - DAY 1

Friday, 11 August, started early for us, embarking on the 1100-kilometre-long ride at 3.15, arriving in Hildesheim about 13 hours later. Highways were fine - with several roadworks though - some accompanied by smiley road signs (red and sad smiley at the beginning of roadworks, some less sad yellow ones in between and a happy green one at the end). I found it amusing, like, at least they know people suffer on such road sections. For about 200 km (in the last part of the route) the navigation lured us on a local road. There was where the true suffering began ;): over thirty degrees outside, speeding or better: slowing 40-50 km/h in a line behind a leading tractor; eventually, you get rid of one, but there is always another; I'm surprised how many farmers are there in the world.

When we finally arrived at the M'era Luna venue at about 16.30, other unattractive circumstances met us: the VIP camping area was already crowded and mainly by people selling food, drinks and other stuff at the festival (unlike the Summer Breeze festival, where the VIP area was only for press and attendances who paid a higher price, and therefore pretty empty). When we finally found a place and built a tent, we relaxed with some beer and then embarked on exploring the area. We first met the exaggerated beer prices (0,5 dL = 6,50 €) and realised we would, most likely, spend our time here pretty sober. As for the food prices - not appealing either (e.g. a portion of fries = 5 €). And cappuccino, 4 € easily. Thankfully, the press tent offers free coffee - and as much as you wish.

The night served with yet another disappointment, mildly speaking. One would say: "Look on the bright side", though in our case, it would be the dark side (since we are engaged with dark music) - but there was nothing dark. The only musical happening was DJ-ing in the hangar: techno/witch-house. Did we miss the gothic festival? So far, we've only encountered gothic costumes, and many of them. What about music? Was passiert hier?

OK - today is a new day with several gigs of our interest: Rave The Reqviem (12.35), Megaherz (14.45), Diary Of Dreams (15.50), Girls Under Glass (16.30; club stage), L'Âme immortelle (16.55), Joachim Witt (18.05), Solar Fake (20.30; club stage), and VV (22.45). And we have pre-arranged two interviews: Girls Under Glass and The 69 Eyes. So far, so good. Seize the day and enjoy while seizing it, and stay tuned to Terra Relicta dark music web magazine and radio! Till tomorrow, then! Jerneja
