UK's female fronted goth/post-punk/darkwave cult band The Danse Society have premiered online a brand new song and the video "Valerio's Theme". The song is taken from bands highly anticipated new album entitled Sailing Mirrors, which will be released on 1st September via their own Society Records. The Danse Society have produced an absolute cracker of an album as thet might say int tarn. This album is the apotheosis of 40 years of history of the band and "Valerio’s Theme" is the first video released from Sailing Mirrors, seventh album of The Danse Society.
Maethelyiah, the frontwoman of The Danse Society explains about the song and the video: "Did you know Valerio? And who is Valerio? Valerio is an old friend who died in 1996, but before then he was a keen fan of The Danse Society and Joy Division. Valerio used to live in Rome, Italy and he was a DJ playing all sorts of post-punk, goth, darkwave music. He was known in the scene for being a loyal friend, laid back, and the best companion for a good chat. Valerio left us too soon. I wrote this song the day he died but for all these years it was in the HD with many other unreleased tracks."
"Two years ago, with Paul, Jack, Sam and Tom we decided to throw unreleased and new songs in the cauldron", Maethelyiah continues. "It‘s been a while since we released VI, so we met up a few times and "Valerio’s Theme" ended up in the bunch. Everybody loved it, and so did our audience in Portugal, Finland, Netherlands, UK and Belgium when we performed it live. Believe me, seeing older and newer generations of Dansers danSing this track together is hard to put in words without sending shivers down my spine. Another curiosity is that this video was entirely shot, directed and edited during lockdown. I have been making videos since 1999 and this has been challenging. Sam, the keyboard player, lives in Birmingham so we had his clips shot in his place. Paul filmed Tom playing the track in his studio. Then I shot Jack, while Paul and I shot each other. I can’t say enough how much I love remembering Valerio and how grateful I am to the whole band for having him on board of this new album. Once again we enjoy past and future at the same time. It is possible. You just need an open mind."
