Heavenwood - The Tarot Of The Bohemians - Part 1

Heavenwood must be proud of this creation, it's absolutely one of the best dark metal albums in 2016 and a strong contender for best album of the year. The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part 1 is a proper example of well crafted extreme/dark/gothic metal! The sound is very rich, it's difficult to talk about gothic metal here as Heavenwood brings forward many extreme elements, sometimes on the very edge of black metal and melodeath, but also doom, symphonic, progressive, dark, while keeping it very melodic and highly atmospheric. Rotting Christ - Rituals

Hellenic black/dark metal masters Rotting Christ are back with their already twelfth full-length album! Rituals is a diverse collection of songs influenced by rites and myths from all around the globe. This album highlights Rotting Christ's unique power and magic, and is maybe the darkest and most personal-sounding Rotting Christ album to date. Rituals shines of excellent songwriting, honed to perfection by long years of experience. LINK / LISTEN

Sabled Sun - 2148

Sabled Sun is one of the most well known sci-fi infused dark ambient projects out there. 2148 is the fourth chapter and the fourth year in the story of a man who has awoken from a long cryo-sleep to find that his planet has been abandoned. Each year or album in the series reveals a few more details and possibilities to be taken into account. Sabled Sun is the side-project of Simon Heath, who is most well known as Atrium Carceri and owner of the Cryo Chamber label. This year's album 2148 takes the story to it most surprising place yet. Syberia - Resiliency

Syberia's sophomore album named Resiliency, a successor to 2012's debut Drawing A Future, which already caused quite a stir inside the post-rock/metal scene, is adventurous, yet everything is smooth and so very coherent to give some goose bumps. Syberia force the listener to pay attention to every detail, and there are many, with every following spin you'll discover more of hidden things. Resiliency is an instrumental post-rock/metal album for all of you dreamers who like to be taken away from this bitter reality. LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN

Terminal Gods - Wave/Form

One of the hotest goth rock/post-punk bands right now must be the UK based quartet Terminal Gods, and after numerous singles and EPs they finally released their debut album. Terminal Gods are one of those few bands today who can seduce the lovers of old school goth in it's unspoiled form. No unnecessary solos, no experimentations, but only in your face thrown good old goth/post-punk like it was meant to be. LINK / LISTEN

The Vision Bleak - The Unknown

16 years after their formation, The Vision Bleak releases their sixth album, The Unknown. Now they are set to explore new borders in their never ceasing thirst of creation. The Unknown is a dark metal album that rejects any kind of direct labeling as it is so very diverse, versatile, uniting furious extreme elements on the very edge of death or black metal with elegance of gothic metal, but there are signs also of doom, medieval, neoclassical, theatrical and horror music. Schwadorf and Konstanz did a masterful job, they gave a breath of fresh air that gives their music a novel shine. LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN

Wormfood - L'Envers

Wormfood must be considered without any doubt as a powerhouse of French dark metal scene and on L'Envers they not only justify it, they did an album that could be a highlight of this years gothic metal scene in general. There are many captivating catchy hooks and melodies on this album, but it's because of a rather avantgardish compositional structure of the songs that it doesn't really flourish out, it keeps everything a bit suspenseful. L'Envers is kind of perverse and obscure horror stage play transformed into sound. LINK / REVIEW / LISTEN
