GIO has brought into view "Black Sun Rising", the first song from his concept album The Geometry Of Ruin, poised to emerge on World Goth Day, 22 May, via his own label, Morella Records.
Giordano Paulo Orsini—known as GIO—is an immortal figure born in 1458, a witness to the collapse of civilisations across five centuries. From Renaissance Florence to Victorian occult salons to modern digital empires, he has watched the same patterns return in new guises.
"Black Sun Rising" charts the rise of authoritarian power and the fervour that gathers around it—forces GIO has seen recur throughout history. The lyrics trace the familiar arc: prophets calling through chains, the faithful kneeling as truth corrodes, the wheel turning once more. It is an immortal's warning delivered with an anthemic sweep.
"From mouths of dust the prophets call / the black sun rises over all / iron tongues preach peace through chains / marching drums disguise the pain".
Channelling The Mission and The Cult, GIO leans into atmospheric guitars, sweeping minor‑key melodies and apocalyptic lyricism. It is darkwave with centuries of authority behind it.
"Black Sun Rising" appears as track ten on The Geometry Of Ruin, a 78‑minute concept album chronicling modern civilisation's unravelling through an immortal's eyes. Across twelve tracks, it charts the journey from perfect systems fracturing to digital dissolution, environmental neglect, authoritarian resurgence and, ultimately, the faint outline of rebirth.
