Blaze Of Perdition - Conscious Darkness

With Conscious Darkness Blaze Of Perdition unleashes an oppressive and ravaging landscape. A sophisticated, forward-thinking black metal, combining atmosphere, melody, harsh aggression, and avant-garde sophistication into 45 minutes of supreme blackened masterpiece. The band's style is wonderfully showcased throughout the four lengthy tracks. Conscious Darkness is an immersive album, a very trippy fine art with a multi-layered black metal.

Ecnephias - The Sad Wonder Of The Sun

One of the most interesting bands coming from Italy must be long runners Ecnephias, who formed back in 1996 and now they made absolutely their most mature and original album to date. The Sad Wonder Of The Sun is a gothic metal/rock art that should be consumed in a relaxed enviroment, somewhere near to the Mediterranean coast, while drinking some good vine. If this album would be released 10 or 20 years ago it would be a cult classic by now.

Katla - Mó∂urástin

Icelandic band featuring ex-Sólstafir drummer and visual artist Guðmundur Óli Pálmason, created a powerful, panoramic music where shimmering guitars, crushing melodies and atmospheric density meet dark, entrancing power. Katla's debut album, Mó∂urástin, shines a spotlight on the band's hook-heavy, horizon-stretching sound. The lyrics tell tales of living in a country of contrasts; a land where fire and ice co-exist and dark winters are offset by the summer's midnight sun.

Myrkur - Mareridt

Mareridt is a work of atavistic mystery, unflinching honesty, and balance. It embraces everything from horror and beauty to the sacred and profane. A perfect blend of folk, black metal, and ambient music becomes in Mykur's music a portal into a world torn apart by light and darkness. The sound is mostly based on great atmospheric soundscapes made by using so many different instruments and siren like vocals which often converge into sheer aggression.

Phallus Dei - Black Dawn

The title Phallus Dei has both sexual and religious connotations and this is also echoed throughout the band's aesthetics and iconography, as well as the overall sound and the feeling it evokes. Definitely a case of 'less is more' with this album where the minimum is maximum and major concern is focused on the minor details. There is also a great variety of styles and approaches utilised throughout the album which separates each track from the others without breaking character.

Principe Valiente - Oceans

With their third album the band has created another alluring world with human-all-too-human lyrics and phantasmal soundscapes. Cool and dreamy, yet impassioned and loaded with sweet anxiety. The intensity of the athmospheric sound and the interplay of melodic guitar strings, the dark drifting drums, rhythmic bass lines and above all the warm, emotional voice, just show that this band delivers one of the best possible mixes of post-punk and shoegaze.

The Devil & The Universe - Folk Horror

The horror element has its subtle nuances. It lies in fields and meadows, hides in birdhouses and haystacks. This is a soundtrack to that moment when your cell phone battery runs out while you’re walking in a lonely meadow and that scarecrow in the distance suddenly appears to be moving closer with a scythe in his hand. The Devil & The Universe with Folk Horror made an album that is a perfect example how mysticsm should go along with music.
